Daddy's Girl

It's no secret that Maïshaah is a true daddy's girl. After all, dada was her first word. It makes me so happy to see her love of music developing from such a small age. I bought her this ukelele as a christmas gift for her first christmas. She was always trying to grab hold of my big acoustic so I thought something more her size would be perfect. Whenever she sees me playing my guitar she will pick it up, sit down beside me and do her best to pull the strings and do her best imitations of singing. In this picture she was actually singing the tune of twinkle twinkle little star - one of her current favourite bedtime songs for daddy to sing to her. Of course she mangled the words up nicely, but you could pick out a few that sounded close and she had the tune pretty good!

Maimai didn't like the sound of the harmonica as a baby, but at last she has warmed up to it and decided to give it a go herself. While I played the guitar she jammed along as she figured out that breathing in and out makes cool sounds!

Just yesterday I was in the basement jammin' and down comes Maimai to join the fun. She got right up onto the guitar stool and asked for the guitar. We worked on the positioning and before long she had her hands in the right places and was able to hold the big guitar all by herself. This is the first time - makes me so happy to see! I taught her 3 words - string, fret, and guitar. She knows that one already but we made sure she understood this was a guitar and to differentiate it from the ukelele. Once she had her hands in the correct positions and was doing her best to strum the strings I told her to sing and managed to capture this photo as she did so. That's my girl! I plan to teach all my kids music, and hope they develop a passion for music on their own. I will do my best to expose them to all the variety of great music out there just like my father did for me. Please note the cowboy hat in the background - country music cowgirl in the making? :)
